This used to be my "photo of the day" blog. I really need to get back into the habit of posting pictures!

They have the coolest birds in Florida. This heron was walking around the golf course today. If I wasn't fumbling so long trying to get my camera out, I would have had a great shot of an alligator eating something in a pond!
Hey Pam! While I can't help identify the beautiful red blossom in the previous photo, the educator in me is compelled to point out that you were lucky to capture this image of a SANDHILL CRANE, not a heron. While you noticed this big guy (or girl- no plummage differences b/t sexes as in some other birds) in FLA, keep your eyes open at home in the spring, summer and fall; MI is the southern edge of their breeding range! Check out http://bna.birds.cornell.edu/bna/species/031 doi:10.2173/bna.31 for more info!
And that, boys and girls, ends our nature lesson for this morning! :)
